Vesak Day in Singapore

What I love about living in Singapore is the fact that it is a multicultural country. We get to experience the celebrations of different religions and ethnic groups.
It may be the Cinco de Mayo celebrations in Mexico but in Singapore, we are celebrating Vesak Day...the Victory Day of the Lord Buddha.
It is a very important day for those practicing the religion of Buddhism thus it is celebrated with great ceremonial rituals which usually starts with the chanting of sutras or the oral teachings of Buddha by monks.

Acts of generosity which are known as dana are also observed and may include the freeing or release of caged birds as well as animals like rabbits and turtles. Others also visit the poor and needy and give alms.

WORLDWIDE CULTURAL EXCHANGE : Philippines 2

I have talked about the cultural exchange program we have signed up for in my previous blog which you could read here.

We were assigned to a group with five other families located in Japan, Australia, and three from USA (but one family will be sharing about their home country Romania). Although our family is primarily based in Singapore, I will be sharing about the Philippines with the package we have put together.

I decided not to dwell too much on what info they could easily find on the internet, so only a few descriptions were given on each item we included in the package.

We had fun putting together the package and we hope the families who will receive them will have fun too.

You could read more about the program and sign up too if you feel like sharing your culture: The Little Red Farm Cultural Exchange Program
